>> complete bay area news coverage, starts right now, this ktvu channel 2 news at noon. >> drenching rain, falling trees, high winds, and flooding. the bay area is dealing with it all as the second in a series of storms roll through the bay area. >>> good afternoon, i am tori campbell. we are on storm watch this noontime with driving rain falling all over the bay area. the problems have ranged from accidents on the freeways to downed trees, power lines and flooding. we have team coverage from the north bay to the santa cruz mountains but start with meteorologist mark tamayo in the ktvu weather center. >> has been quite a morning, excessive rainfall rates, gusty winds still effecting us. here you can pick out the coverage out there. you will notice we are seeing changes in the north bay. the rainfall rates tapering after as you can see but still steady rain for santa rosa, around the area as well. as we shift the maps down here you will notice more activity for the central portions of the bay, heavier rain around san francisco as you cap pick out, a moderate cell moving

could now be just hours away. all ahead on ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> good morning, to you. welcome to a brand new day it's friday, november 30th i'm dave clark. >> good morning, i'm pam cook. thank you for waking up with us. traffic and weather certainly topping our news this morning. let's go to steve for the very latest. how does it look? >> there are some areas that looks okay. there are other areas where it's coming down like crazy. give yourself extra time. on the backside of this. it looks like there is a little bit of a break. we've had reports of decreasing rain to the north the cloud cover is not moving through. there could still be a big-time enhancement. there is really big-time rain especially vacaville to fairfield, antioch, brentwood, oakley. we'll take a closer look coming up. here is tara. >>> yes, we have a lot of spinouts, some mud slides to report up in the sonoma county area. flash flood warning in effect up there until 5:-- 5:22. there are so many parts of the roadway flooded out. too many to mention here. right now this is a live look outside. you can

in a row. for areas where you can pick up free sandbags. go to ktvu.com. >>> a car pile up left one car on top of another. it happened just before 3:30 in the northbound lanes at the capital expressway off ramp. it's not clear if the crash was weather related but the road was wet at the time. one person suffered minor injuries. >>> your friday morning commute could be bad or really bad depending on the speed and timing of this storm. amber lee is live now in marin county where she's been asking road crews what they've been doing to prevent problems on the roadway. >> reporter: it's quite windy out here. we're by the lucky drive expressway. an area that likely gets flooded with the storms. we spoke to a tow truck driver who says he expects the calls to double with the heavy rain. >> with the heavy wind we've been having, the water tends to back up a little bit -- a little bit more. >> reporter: as soon as it started driving, moore started responding. his company is hired by chp to move stalled vehicles as quickly as possible. >> i expect tomorrow morning to be pretty busy. >> reporter:

into east bay. we'll take a closer look at it coming up on this last system. second hour of the ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> good morning, to you. welcome to a brand new day it's wednesday, december 5th i'm dave clark. >> and i'm pam cook. thank you for joining us. steve is here. we've been watching a lot of our live pictures. rain is coming down pretty steady. >> some rain, some no rain at all. things are lighting up. things have been picking up kind of steady around san francisco, and birkly. you can see that line right there. the heaviest looks to be daly city and san francisco. we'll take a closer look at this in five minutes. >>> let's take a live look at the lafayette this is highway 24. you can see traffic moving pretty well there westbound as you make your way to the caldecott tunnel. it is pretty wet out there. we got a lot of puddles. definitely take it easy. this is a look at highway 237. traffic is flowing well in both directions. let's head back to the desk. >>> there is new information in the fatal shooting of a bicyclist. the victim was shot and killed outside of a middle

you know what it dash this is the street -- what it is. -- is the offramp. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> well, the victim of a hit and run in the south bay has died. it happened yesterday in san jose. ktvu's janine de la vega has been there since 4:30 this morning talking to people who say they know the dangers in the area. janine? >> reporter: well, dave this intersection quinnby road, the traffic is picking up. there are a lot of pedestrians in the area at that time when this happened. police say around 5:45 last night a man was crossing the intersection struck him and -- and was struck. his identify city not being released until his next of skin notified. police are looking for anyone who saw anything. police say it's disappointing that the driver acted so callous. >> it's sad that we have to -- you know, you have to obey the laws when you cross the street. obey the laws. >> reporter: we don't know if. victim was jaywalking or -- we don't know if the victim was jaywalking or was on the sidewalk. the speed limit on the road here is 40 miles an hour. we're waiting for a call

and why this is happening. >>> time now for the ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> good morning, to you. welcome to a brand new day middle of the week. it's wednesday december 5th i'm dave clark. >> and i'm pam cook. thank you for waking up with us. steve says little drizzly out there. will it last most of the day? >> right rain. there has been a little heavier out toward hercules. it's coming through. but again this is far weeker than anything we have seen. but still rain is here. but overall this is a much weaker system we will get rain throughout the day. we'll take a closer look at this rain. >>> this is a look at highway 24 through lafayette. and 880 near the oakland coliseum traffic is moving pretty well. it is wet out there. we do have an accident we want to tell you about coming up in a couple minutes. let's head back to the desk. >>> topping our news this morning police in berkeley are still on the scene where a bicyclist was shot and killed outside of a middle school. we will take you out there live at the scene you can see what is going on. this is long fellow middle school.

for this growhouse. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> and to the latest on san francisco muni. it's back up and running after a transformer problem shut down everything for hours. ktvu aalex savidge live at the -- ktvu's alex savidge is live at the van ness station. what do you know? >> reporter: well, right here on market street, i did an interview with the mta spokesperson, he came out here and updated the situation. he says computers who use subway systems can expect a smooth right. all of the issues has been resolved. he tells me all of their trains are running on their regular schedules. let me show you the scene inside the van ness station. all of the trains again moving this morning. there was a shutdown, though, last night. it was about 6:00 when the entire subway system stopped because of a blown transformer at the van ness station. crews had to work throughout the night to fix the problem. and then finally at 1:30 this morning, they had everybody up and running again. with all of the subways out of service. you can imagine it was a major hassle for tens of thousands of commuters.

, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. >>> a man walking to a liquor store was among four people shot near oakland's lake merritt. investigators recovered dozens of shell casings at two separate crime scenes. at 10:30, officers were called to east 18th street. three people in their 20s have been shot there. two men and a woman. meanwhile, a stray bullet had wounded an apparent innocent bystander, heading to a liquor store a few blocks away. all of the victims are recovering in the hospital this morning. coming up at 7:30 a live report on what kind of weapons police think were used in this attack. >>> 7:03. grab an umbrella. we have rain. more of it moving into the bay area, coming down pretty good causing problems all over the bay area. ktvu's brian flores is live near larkspur right there. i can see you're wet. coming down pretty good. >> reporter: yeah, probably about a couple of minutes ago, dave, the rain started pouring pretty good here. yeah, but steve's been talking about it all morning. we're not expecting huge rain amounts from this storm but the ground is saturated from the

will this storm last and how much rain will actually fall. john sasaki, ktvu news. >> and live storm tracker 2 is showing an increase in the rainfall across parts of the bay area. that trend will continue in the next couple of hours. you can see the live doppler sweep and reports of rainfall. san francisco, oakland, san mateo, palo alto and the fremont area. here we go significant rainfall. heavier down the creek. as far as the expectations with this system the second storm system moves through the night. a wind advisory and high surf advisory kicks in tomorrow. here is the forecast model it is speeding up the timing a little bit. this is a change. we could be talking about heavy rain as early as friday morning. that's a recent change with this rainfall forecast model. coming up and we'll take a look at pretty impressive rainfall expected with this system and another one that will move in just in time for your weekend. >>> people who live in the santa cruz mountains take a close look at the trees as they see high winds moving in. the cruz family has been keeping a close eye at this rotted tree

problems this morning even though it's clear outside. we begin our storm coverage with ktvu's alex savidge. >> reporter: good morning. a lot of repair work to do out here. la fayette creek runs underneath this street. it flooded. that's us what caused the roadway to -- that's what caused the roadway to collapse. crews will be using this heavy equipment to execute the sinkhole created yesterday, dig debris out from the creek that overflowed yesterday. it was late in the afternoon on sunday, when the soil eroded and the pavement out here just gave way. utility lines that were impacted, a gas line had to be capped, and suerers created a -- sewers created a bypass. now, the cause of this collapse was a pipe that diverts creek water. neighbors told us they could hear it go. >> it sounded like a big thud. a big really, heavy -- it shook the ground. it was a big boom. >> reporter: so now the city is working on a long-term fix out here for this area, perhaps they will put in some sop find kind of -- some kind of a rack so they can catch a lot of the debris that tends to run down the creek when the

area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> good morning to you. welcome. i'm dave clark. >> i'm torrie campbell. we are following developing news out of palo alto. police are searching for a man who reportedly entered a young woman's apartment. it happened early this morning. we are at the scene with the woman's frightening experience. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. police say they are trying to be complete in this investigation. they have been here for the past five hours here at hawthorne. they are talking to neighbors to try to put together what happened. police say a woman in her 20s made a frantic 911 call at 2:20. she said she woke up and screamed when she found a man wearing dark clothing inside her apartment. that man took off running. police immediately started searching but came up empty. they are interviewing the woman. >> physically she is not hurt. she didn't require medical attention. that is the good news. as far as the traumatic incident and how it made her feel and the stress and being scared, obviously that's going to be a part

are driving on roads through the storm. ktvu channel 2 news. >> there are also problems in the late -- in the north bay. folks waking up due to power outages. new video shot earlier this morning. numerous trees and power lines down. sonoma county could receive up to 4 inches of rain today. the russian river is expected to flood tomorrow morning. people haven't been filling us to invade. certainly, plenty of chatter amongst the folks about potential flooding. many people are choosing to wait to see what happens with the river today. >> everybody's talking about it. this is minor compared to how it has been. >> in 1986, the russian river rose to 49.5 feet, more than 17 feet above flood level. you will get as high as 32 and a half feet tomorrow. flood stage is 32 feet. >> volunteers of the salvation army bell ringers covering after a freak mall accident. a large chunk of sheet rock from the ceiling entrance fell on top of her. it happened outside jcpenney. the woman was taken to the hospital that should be okay. investigators are trying to determine if heavy rainfall caused the damage.

considered canceling classes but school will go on as scheduled. stay tuned here to ktvu and ktvu.com for anymore school closure. >>> the south bay is getting trenched and mudslides are possible up in the santa cruz mountains. alex is live. he has been there since 4:30. >> reporter: we have seen a steady downpour here in the santa cruz mountains all morning long. that's making for dangerous conditions on highway 17 as people come up and over the pass this morning. you see a lot of standing water as you make this drive. a lot of it pooling on the roadway. people are taking it slow and no accidents report by the chp so far. chp has been getting reports of quite a bit of mud and debris coming down along the roadway. we went and took a drive down to scott's valley just to check out the reports and it looks like caltrans has been getting whatever mud has been coming on to the roadway cleaned up fearly quickly. we didn't see any real hazards but the chp is warning that you need to be careful. i want to show you something over here. this is a concern for the chp. the high winds overnight
